How to avoid the Pitfalls of Roofing
Over the years we have met clients who have been scammed by unscrupulous roofing companies.
We hope the list below will help you make an informative decision when deciding upon something as important as your home. Even if you do not choose Deluxe Roofing, we hope you do choose a reputable Atlanta roofer. Make sure the roofer you choose is licensed and NOT a temporary company or one from out of state.
■ DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING! Honest and reputable companies will not ask you to sign anything to get an estimate, nor do they need a signature to discuss your roof with your insurance company. Remember, you are the customer of BOTH your insurance company and the roofer.
■ DO NOT PAY ANY MONEY UP FRONT. If a roofer requires money up front, it's not in your best interest. They should carry the cost to do the job. Giving money to a roofer BEFORE the job is complete is like lending money to a relative. It's a good way to insure you won't see either one again.
■ DO NOT USE OUT OF TOWN COMPANIES. Also known as STORM CHASERS. They have no ties to the community or your home beyond the job. If you have problems, it may be impossible to get them to live up to their warranties.
■ DO NOT TAKE THE FIRST ESTIMATE YOU RECEIVE. Any company insisting you sign their contract that day is only trying to lock you into them. ALWAYS get 3 estimates so you can make an informed decision.
■ DO INSIST UPON A WRITTEN, DETAILED ESTIMATE. If it's not in writing, it's not enforceable. Make sure you know what you are getting and what you are paying for.
■ DO INSIST ON A COPY OF INSURANCES. Call the agency and verify their policy really is in force at the time of the job. Also verfy that it is for ROOFING.
■ DO INSIST ON A LIEN WAVER. If a roofer doesn't pay for the materials and labor, the home owner can be held liable, EVEN THOUGH YOU PAID THE ROOFING COMPANY!
■ DO CHECK OUT REFERENCES. Insist on a list of customers to contact. If the company only provides a handful of names, be wary, it could be their relatives you are calling.
■ DO CHECK OUT ROOFERS HISTORY WITH THE BBB. Verify how long they've been in business, any complaints lodges against them, the results of the complaints, and how the BBB rates them.
■ DO USE LOCAL LICENSED COMPANIES Check the Secretary of the State of Georiga website to see if the roofer is a Georgia company.
